Ulster County Tourism Cover Photo Contest

I’ve been very lucky to live in Ulster County for the past eight years. Being at the doorstep to great hiking, biking and a host of other outdoor activities is a landscape photographer’s dream. So, when a year ago, I saw that Ulster County Tourism was having a photo contest for their annual tourism guide, I jumped at the chance to submit a few of my photos. Back in March I was contacted and told that I had won the cover shot for the 2013 tourism guide! This is so exciting for me. To have people from all over NY as well as the rest of the country be able to pick up a copy of the 2013 guide at a rest stop on the NYS Thruway or in a cafe in the area and see my photo of Lake Minnewaska on the cover is really cool!

New Paltz in 5

When I started this series I wanted to be shots in and around town.  Luckily New Paltz is the kind of town where you can photograph a drum circle, a quaint main street and then drive (or walk) five minutes from town and see beautiful landscapes.  Here are 5 of those from this past week.

Fresh snowfall at the Ashokan Reservoir

We woke this morning to a bit of wet snow covering the grass and cars (which was super cool, since I didn’t realize it was going to snow).  I had to pick up my freshly tuned skis at Potter Brothers in Kingston, so I thought it’d be an excellent day to take a walk up at the Ashokan Reservoir.  The drive through the backroads around the reservoir was absolutely beautiful, with snow covering every little branch and making the landscape a winter wonderland.  Here are a few shots from the walk.
