New Paltz Christmas Tree Bonfire

January 13, 2013 By Joe

Getting rid our our Christmas tree seems to be an annual annoyance, so you can imagine my excitement when driving home the other day and seeing a banner on the side of P&Gs for “Christmas Tree Bonfire in the Park”.  Yesterday, on a not so wintery Saturday in January (at least snow is on the ground!) ND and I lashed a bungee cord around our tree, dragged it through town and over to Hasbrouck Park to join dozens of families and neighbors all united around setting our Christmas trees on fire.  The Mayor, Jason West, spoke, reminding everyone that the Christmas tree bonfire was an old New Paltz tradition, and his hopes to make it even bigger and better next year, while a local bluegrass trio, Yardsale, played in the background and the fire department carefully tended the bonfire.  Magical moments in a magical town.

Yardsale was playing in the dark.  I was lucky to catch them lit up for just a moment when a huge dry tree got thrown on the fire.20130112_2478

Ellie!

January 5, 2013 By Joe

It often takes some months between the time that friends of mine have children and I get to meet them.  We were graced with a visit from Ellie (her first “trip” I believe) back in October.  She was about 9 and a half months at this point and exceptionally cute, probably one of the happiest babies (with equally happy parents) that I’ve ever seen.  Check out the pictures and I’m sure you’ll agree!

Second shooting a wedding with Candeo Photo

September 12, 2012 By Joe

A couple months ago I was lucky to have my friend Nick, one half of Candeo Photo, ask me to second shoot a wedding with him.  I’ve shot a couple of events, and some people here or there, but mostly keep myself confined to photographing mountains and streams.  Weddings have always scared me a bit because of their high stakes nature.  What if I didn’t get the shot?  What if I forget how to use my camera on that day?  The Hudson River or Shawangunk ridge wouldn’t care about that, but a bride and groom surely would.  Needless to say, I was a bit nervous.  Any worries I had faded away when I showed up at the Adam’s (the groom) house to do all the pre-ceremony shots.  Adam, his brothers and friends were super relaxed and ready to enjoy the day, which put me at ease.  We got a bunch of great candids inside and then headed out back for some fun posed shots.  After that it was off to the wedding. The day flew by as I grabbed shots of the family, the wedding party and all the little details I could.  Nick put up a great post over on Candeo Photo with a handful of shots (I think the sunburst kiss is one of my favorites!) and some words about the day.  Below you’ll find a few of my favorites from the day.  Thanks again to Nick for the opportunity to second shoot, and I can wait to see Candeo Photo shooting my sister’s wedding in a couple months!
